Over twenty years ago Friendship Shelter, Inc. was founded by a visionary group of volunteers. In 2009, over 250 volunteers contributed over 10,000 hours of service. Our dedicated volunteer staff is involved in all areas and at every level of our programming. • Guest Chefs – A great opportunity for company employees, a community group, families or individuals to prepare or bring a wholesome dinner for our 32 residents. Our kitchen is well equipped and our residents are so very grateful for a good evening meal. Dinner is served buffet style at 6:00 PM. Come once or come regularly, it's a great experience.
• Main Office Volunteer – Volunteers needed to assist with general office duties such as incoming phone calls, sorting and organizing mail, and other office projects.
• House Supervisor Volunteer – Volunteer Night Supervisor is responsible for helping the Night Supervisor on duty oversee the overall operation of the shelter including monitoring residents and the physical appearance of the facility on weekends and nights.
• Clothing Donations Manager – Manager needed to create and implement a system to receive, sort, maintain, dispense and dispose of donated clothing.
  
• Transportation Volunteer– Volunteers occasionally needed for transportation to medical, legal or job interview appointments when public transportation is not feasible.
  
• Weekend Activity Volunteer – Organize a weekend outing/activity once month for approximately 10 Friendship Shelter residents.
• Donations Driver - Volunteer by driving to pick up donations for the shelter and making phone calls about donations.
• Volunteer Mentor- Working as part of an integrated Case Management team, volunteers are needed to mentor residents by assisting with job search and/or accompanying residents to important appointments. Also need to be willing to talk to residents about their week, problems they may be having, etc.
• Host a Henderson House Barbecue – One Sunday each month our 25 San Clemente residents hold an early evening barbecue and always welcome food and soft drinks and friends.
