As we celebrate our 25th year, we’re proud and excited about how far we’ve come and the prospects for the future in helping homeless adults achieve self-sufficiency. Over the last 21 years our hosts have had more than 400 dinners and events and have raised over $1.5 million dollars.

We are seeking hosts to open their hearts and homes to gather with friends for an extra special reason, to support Friendship Shelter-- an opportunity to have a good time, while making a significant contribution to your community. The flexibility is yours; you choose the date, guest list, and theme of your event, invite as many guests as you like and charge your guests what you think is appropriate. We will arrange for a current resident or graduate, along with a staff member or board member, to speak at each event, inspiring guests with the resident’s personal story.

It's fun! In the past we've had a "Cinco De Mayo" party, a chili cook-off, a Sunday tea party, a formal Italian feast, intimate, home-cooked meals, back yard concerts, partnerships with restaraunts, wine-tasting,a 4th of July party, St. Patty's Day parties, comedians, psychics...we gladly accept any and all creativity!

To sign up as a host or to find out information please contact Bob Mister: semister@cox.net; or Taylor Mathieson: tmathieson@friendshipshelter.org; 949 494 6928 x16. Want to host, but don't know how? Here's a quick guide to get started! HOW TO HOST

Thank you to our hosts Colin Henderson, Marshall and Elizabeth Ininns, Mary and Dan Shapero, Stu Saffer & Shaena Stabler from StuNews, and Ivan Spiers from Mozambique. Thank you to Judy and Dom Roguly and Susie and George Wood, Anne and Ryen Caenn for great St. Patrick's Day fun! Dawn and Jerry Price, Mark Miller, Ava Burton and Jason Feddy teamed up for a wonderful theatrical night of "Love Letters". Thanks also to hosts Stephanie and Kevin Donavan; Mary and Bruce McDonald; Kathleen and Gregg Abel who hosted a backyard pig roast with friends Barbara and Greg MacGillivray and Cindy Ortiz and Robert Plant; Barbara and Ken McMurray hosted with Eileen and Roger Ohanesian and Lisa and John Mansour at ReMark's in the canyon. Jane and Joe Hanauer hosted a wonderful ocean front evening at their home in Three Arch Bay. Steve and Jill Edwards had friends join together for a cooking class at Laguna Culinary Arts- what a great idea! Thank you to all of our hosts this year and we're looking forward for more to come.

Mozambique's Ivan Spiers plays with Waddy Wachtel (at left), former guitarist for Stevie Nicks. We had a rockin' night at Mozambique with Waddy Wachtel. A great party that raised nearly $8,000 for Friendship Shelter Programs!

“FLY ME TO THE MOON”

Read about our success in COAST magazine!

OC Register!

and OC Social Scene!

Friendship Shelter's 2012 Annual Gala "Fly me to the Moon" was a fundraising, friend-raising, and FUN success! Guests mingled under the "moonlight" bidding on silent auction items and scoping the MAD MEN attire of the crowd. After Friendship Shelter alumnus Shawn Nethercott shared his relatable story of overcoming his struggle with addiction, many supporters raised their hands to donate to help support our mission during the "Fund-a-Need" portion of the evening. Exclusive live auction items including getaways, catered dinners, and a wall of wine raised a significant amount of proceeds for the evening. Event Chair, Keiko Sakamoto thanked the guests and announced a surprise donation of $50,000 from Bill and Sue Gross. The night ended with celebratory dancing to tunes of the 60s from 8 piece band "Alec Milstein and his MAD MEN", resembling the swanky ratpack days. It was a wonderful night with supporters, both new and old gathering to advocate the importance of helping homeless adults achieve self-sufficient lives for themselves.

To our event guests, committee, sponsors, and volunteers we owe the success of this night to YOU! Thanks for supporting Friendship Shelter in this way.

"Come Together: The Art of Getting Home" set a new record!

The Beatles-themed event, dubbed "Come Together," was chaired by Friendship Shelter board member Becky Wills and shelter volunteer Kristi Cancellieri, who expanded the organization's traditional "Art of Getting Home" theme to add numerous silent and live auction offerings. Despite a chilly night, the record-breaking crowd reveled to the pre-dinner entertainment of musician Jason Feddy as guests competed to win auction items.

The Edwards family came to support their mother, Jill Edwards, former event chair and community leader honoree. Jason Feddy provides acoustics for cocktail hour.

Our second "Stories of Home" sold out!

Friendship Shelter presented its second "Stories of Home" event on Thursday, June 16th at [seven-degrees]. This year’s performance added new elements: a variety of actors, some from the local scene, plus displays of art pieces created by members of the Artists’ Collective, a small group of professional artists who are current or past residents of Friendship Shelter, and whose talents are being nurtured by the organization.

Actors included Linda Gehringer, Richard Burgi, Jonelle Allen, and Melissa Denton joined by recognizable locals Jason Farris, Rev. B.J. Beu, and Mark Dressler. Friendship Shelter's own Mark Miller performed and directed the program.

Jonelle Allen, Richard Burgi, and Friendship Shelter supporter Lisa Mansour will read at the event.

“The combination of the written word with the immediacy of an actor’s visceral, live interpretation is a powerful performance that brings a story to life,” said Dawn Price, executive director of Friendship Shelter. “We’re excited to be presenting this event for the second year and we hope that all arts lovers will come see what we’ve put together.
